Iselin Amanda Støylen
Hi there,
I’m Iselin, the founder of A Thousand Roses Apothecary, and a devoted practitioner of herbal medicine. I work primarily with women, offering a holistic approach through the lens of western herbal medicine, medical astrology, nutrition and fertility awareness.
I support clients through 1:1 consultations and programs, both online and in-person. I believe herbal medicine plays an integral part in our health and wellbeing as humans, and can be powerful allies on our walks of life. Herbal medicine is the original medicine we’ve relied on for millennia, and plants hold wisdom that reaches far deeper than what the eye can see, or what science can determine.

Herbal Medicine Consultations
The wisdom of the female body is a rich inner resource; a resource we may connect with in order to bring about healing and wellbeing from the inside out.
My practice is rooted in a vitalist herbalist approach, bridging mind, body, heart and spirit, and is built upon wisdom from medical astrology, western herbal medicine, traditional folk medicine and Ayurvedic wisdom, alongside modern research.
As a certified herbal medicine practitioner and trained teacher in fertility awareness I am devoted to learning from traditional and ancestral forms of earth based healing, and through the studies of plants, people and planets.

Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis
In combination with my herbal practice I use Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) in my practice. If you come to me with health concerns such as digestive issues, sleep disturbances, hormonal imbalances, chronic fatigue and chronic illnesses, fertility issues or simply wishing to improve your health, we may utilize HTMA’s to give us a clear report of what is currently going on in your body.
A Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) is an analytical test that measures the mineral composition of hair. It is a safe and non-invasive test that reflects the level of nutrient and toxic elements in body tissue.
The analysis will show the concentrations of minerals and metals that have accumulated in the hair over the last 1-3 months. It shows up to 35 nutrient and toxic minerals, and over 25 important mineral ratios.
HTMA is regarded by integrative doctors, naturopaths and nutritional therapists as one of the most valuable screening tools available in everyday and preventative health care.
A HTMA test is for practitioners only, which means that you need a practitioner to order it for you. As a registered herbalist I can order this test for you- and help you interpret the results and make the necessary changes.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why should I do a Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis?
A HTMA is a safe, scientific, non-invasive pathology test.
It provides reliable data on up to 35 nutrient and toxic minerals, and over 25 important mineral ratios.
A HTMA may show us both nutrient mineral imbalances, or toxic mineral excesses, that may be affecting your health.
A HTMA shows us what is stored in the body’s tissues, rather than what is currently in the blood (blood test). A lot of health information is not revealed in standard blood and urine tests, making them both inaccurate and ineffective.
Unlike blood, hair is less susceptible to the homeostatic mechanisms that quickly affect trace elements levels (such as rushing to your doctor’s appointment for blood tests, or where you are at in your cycle (for women).
Long term deviations of mineral retention or losses are more easily detected in hair than in blood. Hair provides a record of past as well as present trace element levels, ie biological activity.
A HTMA offers a personalised interpretive test report that assess your current mineral status, highlight areas of concern and recommend dietary changes and supplements for improved health and wellbeing.
How long does it take for my test to come back?
Your test results will generally be available within 12 days of the laboratory receiving your tests results and payment. We will then review your results during our next consultation.
What is the cost of a HTMA?
The cost of the test itself is $175.
What can a HTMA test for?
A HTMA gives a report of 35 different minerals and toxic elements, as well as 25 important mineral ratios. Through this report we may also understand how other things in the body are functioning, including:
Metabolic function
Thyroid function
Adrenal Function
Digestive function
Liver issues
Energy levels
Blood sugar regulation
Mood and emotions
Sleep problems
And more…
What are some other benefits of HTMA compared to blood and urine testing?
Low cost alternative
Easy sampling
Shows storage/tissue levels over a longer period of time (not just a snapshot in time as with a blood test)
Shows nutritional profile on a tissue level instead of what’s floating in the blood in a moment in time (blood test) or only what the body is excreting (urine test)
Tests can easily be compared to assess progress

What factors affect our mineral levels? Do I need to test my minerals if I eat healthy?
There are many factors that affect our nutrient profile and mineral levels. This does of course include our diet, but it is also greatly affected by our stress levels, mineral supplementation (all minerals work synergistically), light and noise pollution & circadian rhythm, heavy metals (directly affect our nutrient profile) and even our mothers nutritional status at the time of your conception and time in the womb.
